The new Decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance-measuring devices by Local Rule.

That means that clubs, courses and all levels of competitions may allow the devices. While many local and regional tournaments will go ahead and permit the electronic aides, the USGA has announced it will not permit their use in 2006 in its qualifying and championship events. The major pro tours also will not allow rangefinders.
