The HorsePower Tee Shot Tour, which will begin
in May 2008 and conclude in October 2008. There will be
no need for a putter or wedge at these HorsePower Tee Shot
Tour events as they are nothing but high energy, testosterone
laced power golf events. The only golf club needed
here is the Big Stick, the driver.
Four of the eight members of the 2008 HorsePower Tee Shot
Tour will be Danny Luirette (Scottsdale, AZ), Brooks
Baldwin (Mendenhall, MS), Kevin Bullard (Cedartown,
GA) and Vince Howell (Brentwood, CA),with the others
being named shortly.
The power golf format will be one that is
very unique. Unlike any other long drive competitions,
these players will be competing on a golf hole located at
a golf facility in close proximity to the Nextel Cup event
sites. Each competitor will be awarded points for drives that
are not only long, but accurate as well.
These golfers will be trying to drive the green on that
400+ yard par 4s for a $300,000 pay day. Kyle Petty, who
has recently been bitten by the golf bug, has committed to
participate on a team.
The 2008 HorsePower Tee Shot Tour will begin and end at Cabarrus
Country Club located in Concord, North Carolina. Additional
sites will be selected to host the other four events. Events,
to be held on either Wednesday or Thursday nights of race
week, will begin at 8 PM and feature two rounds of competition
per team.
There will be a qualifying event at Cabarrus Country Club
on September 17, 2007. Thirty-two (32) power golf players
from around the world will compete, with four advancing to
the 2008 HorsePower Tee Shot Tour for the entire 2008 season.
On Tuesday, September 18, 2007, a media golf event will be
held at Cabarrus Country Club, where media guests will be
paired with power golfers and stock car personalities.
Whoever thought a bunch of good old boys would ever be interested
in the game of golf, let alone a long drive competition? It
looks like NASCAR is really turning into a well rounded sport
with drivers who do more than just go around in circles! Whats
next, Kurt Busch on the tennis court or Dale Jr. playing soccer?
