Dakoda (Koda) Dowd Is The Up And Coming Florida
Golfer
Dakoda (Koda) Dowd is not your average 12
year old when it comes to golf. Dowd has won 185 junior
trophies, and is the nation's top-ranked golfer in the graduating
class of 2011. As a sixth-grader she was the No.2 golfer on
the team at Northside Christian High. Dakoda finished in second
place at last year's Florida Class A high school regional
tournament, and if you have not guessed yet Dakoda (Koda)
Dowd shoots in the low 70s. Look for Dakoda to be beating
up on her competition for years to come.
Dakoda (Koda) Dowd is not your average 12 year old when
dealing with life. A fight with breast cancer that Kelly
Jo Dowd, Dakoda's mother believed she had won recently became
active again. This time the disease was metastatic in Kelly
Jo's organs and bones. Kelly Jo Dowd, 40, is a one-time Hooters
swimsuit model who made herself the only woman to climb the
restaurant chain's corporate ladder from waitress, to manager,
and to general manager, operating the Palm Harbor store on
North U.S. 19 from 2002 until she had to resign this year.
Dakoda is not only mature on the course, but off as well.
When her mom first became sick Dakoda (Koda) left elementary
school, and is now being home-schooled. This allows Dakoda
to be closer to her mother and be able to help when needed.
Kelly Jo's closeness with Dakoda has enabled her to deal with
cancer and grow from it.
Dakoda (Koda) Dowd received a sponsor's exemption to
the April 27-30 Ginn
Clubs & Resorts Open near Orlando. Dakoda hoped
to play on the Ladies Professional Golf Association tour some
day, and now she will have that chance. We are all hoping
for Kelly Jo to see Dakoda's first birdie in a LPGA event.
