Alexis Thompson Is A Great Jr Florida Golfer
Alexis Thompson shot a 73 at a local U.S.
Women's Open qualifier, advancing her to the June sectionals,
where she became the youngest player ever to qualify for the
nation's marquee Women's US Open golf event. Alexis missed
the cut with a 76 82.
Alexis Thompson started playing when she was 5 and began
entering tournaments by 7. By age 8, she knew she wanted to
be a professional golfer. At her home course of TPC at Eagle
Trace, Alexis and her 13-year-old brother, Curtis, practice
everyday after school.
Seven hours of practice a day near her home in Coral Springs,
Fla. -- made possible by online home schooling -- has helped
her develop a solid all-around game that includes drives of
230-240 yards.
Alexis' accomplishments include 69-69 to win the South Florida
sectional qualifier and travel to Ohio for the Westfield Nationals.
The Doral Junior three years in a row for her age division.
Three Florida Junior Tour titles playing in the 13-15 age
division and one title in the 16-18 age division.
Alexis Thompson plans to make golf a career. "I hope
to see my game at the level of Morgan Pressel in five years,"
she says, "I want to play college golf, but if I am good
enough at 18 I might turn pro."
