Florida Amateur Golf
Associations And Golf Tours
As a golfing company we try to keep track of the amateur tours
and associations in Florida. There are many local Florida golf
associations and golf tours where the average golfer can feel like
a PGA pro.
With most of these golf associations catering to golfers with medium
to high handicaps, any Florida golfer can join and not have to worry
about how good or bad they are. We all know how tough it is to make
it on the PGA, but there is a way to become a Florida tour player.
Florida amateur golf associations and tours do not require golfers
to carry a pro card, but many will require a GHIN handicap or a
handicap that was kept by their home course. This information is
for the purpose of placing the Florida golfer into the correct flight.
Each amateur golf association will have different rules, but most
tend to be similar in structure. To keep play fair there are different
flights set up for different handicaps. Usually there are A Flights,
B Flights, C Flights, and D Flights, but this could vary from tour
to tour.
The fees are collected for membership and also each tournament
played in. Not all Florida amateur golf associations require an
annual membership, but this membership will give the players more
benefits and discounts for tournaments. Membership fees will range
anywhere from $100.00 to $150.00 depending on the benefits of membership.
The tournaments will range anywhere from $60.00 to $100.00 dollars
for a one day event, and $200.00 to $250.00 for a weekend event.
Prize money is usually paid out in the way of gift certificates
and merchandise because of legal issues, but there could be a few
renegade associations that might pay out in cash. Beware of these
associations but to legal problems you could be involved in.
When choosing a Florida amateur golf association or tour to play
on, one should look at how the flights are set up, how prize money
is paid out, if sandbaggers are allowed to play without an established
handicap, and which courses the events will be played on.
